we spent a couple of evenings painting a few layers on "olaf" and the girls took this responsibility very seriously.
amelia's halloween program at preschool. i just love her and her little friends. brook was leia, and this single coincidence convinced amelia that she could be leia for halloween next year. so i guess that solves any mysteries for next year.
(beanbag on the head + elbow)
(i told scarlett to hold her candy corn up for her picture, and so she did--
the tiny real candy corn in her right hand. so darling and sweet)
we loved halloween story time! it's been a little bittersweet for me to watch scarlett joining in on all the actions during storytime. she's so grown up and really not my baby anymore.ward halloween party is always a treat-- the young men and young women do such a great job! the girls love the activities and treats and the costume contest. scarlett won "most realistic costume" for her age division and i pat myself on the back for that! also, so many elsa's and anna's!
open house and trick-or-treat at edward lifesciences. it was fun seeing the inside of and understanding my mom's job a little better. amelia mostly wanted to devour the candy and couldn't care less about the demonstrations by each department.
trick-or-treat street on soda row. amelia's preschool teacher was a vendor and provided the "real" elsa and anna, and amelia had talked about it every day for WEEKS. every single day. needless to say, she was so excited and almost got a little stage fright. amelia and scarlett walked up together and they said, "wow-- this is so confusing, you guys look just like us!" anyways, their union was one for the books. oh yeah, and rapunzel. i felt so bad for her; she was the perfect princess, but everyone pretty much just wanted to meet elsa and anna.
oh my goodness. i adore halloween as a parent. scarlett literally ran from door to door saying "tricktreat" and "tankyoo" with her tiny, adorable voice. amelia saw so many of her friends en route and their parents at their homes and was so happy so be out past her bedtime. daybreak is such a fun community to live in, and therefore such a fun place to trick-or-treat through. so many houses go all out with halloween decorations, music, fog, and scare tactics, "penny's mom" aka my friend eva, made homemade donuts and invited us in to partake, our bishop's home does a firepit and hot chocolate every year, a "witch" down our street handed out tiny (pretend) mice while stirring her cauldron... i mean i could go on and on! we love our neighborhood! when we got home, we watched frozen (cliche, i know) in between handing out candy. amelia loved that i made the older kids do a trick to get their treat. grandma and grandpa bodtcher came over to see the girls in their costumes and amelia shared with them all the candy she didn't like. scarlett had a pretty high fever from cutting in her 4 canines and just cuddled with us the rest of the evening, poor babe.
if you couldn't tell, our family had frozen-themed costumes. amelia was elsa, scarlett was anna, jer was kristoff (always such a good sport), and i was olaf. i mentioned on my instagram account that i was reluctant about these costumes. amelia had them picked out since the beginning of the year, and wouldn't budge. i spent most of the year showing her pictures of princess leia and trying to convince her how awesome our potential star wars costumes would be. she would hear none of it, and i finally started our costumes in september (late for me). in the end, it was magical watching her face light up as we stepped into our costumes. she has loved the halloween season as much as i have! also, scarlett has worn her costume several days post-halloween and so many people have mentioned how rare it is that a one-year-old can be so attached to a costume... and i just laugh to myself because i know it has everything to do with amelia. scarlett has a habit of yelling "ANNA" whenever someone mentions halloween or trick-or-treat. j says we need to hide her costume tonight, but i sort of think it's sweet.
until next year!
