we left for moab shortly after picking amelia up from preschool on friday afternoon. for unknown reasons, scarlett fell asleep while i was working out that morning and continued to sleep through my packing and lunch. i was nervous that that would affect her mood for our road trip down, but it was actually smooth sailing for both girls and therefore our whole family! scarlett fell asleep quickly in the car, and millie read an arthur chapter book until she was asleep. jer and i chatted while they napped, and it was the most quiet drive we've ever had! the girls woke up when we were about an hour away, and i presented them with a piece of cardboard each, markers, and frozen stickers that entertained them the remainder of the way. jer and i were so proud of me for how well-prepared i was!
as soon as we arrived at the hotel, we unpacked and changed into our suits to swim! scarlett was not nearly as excited for the pool as we all thought she would be, and preferred to spectate from the side. jer coaxed her in and got a few smiles out of her. unfortunately, he made the mistake of taking her under the arch waterfall, and she bailed soon afterwards. you can see from the final picture that leaving the pool was her favorite part of the entire event. i loved watching jer play with the girls in the pool; there are some things about motherhood that no one can ever fully prepare you for... and this was one of them. watching jeremy being a dad and the girls completely adoring him, just like i do.
we let go of our expectations of strict bedtimes and our adult alone/quiet time and instead went out to dinner and walked main street around their bedtime. when we returned to our hotel room, we watched an entire movie with treats and the girls happily and willingly fell asleep around 10 pm. it was perfect!
